Jubo Dal leader murdered, 25 hurt in AL-BNP clash
A Jessore Jubo Dal leader was hacked to death by rivals on Monday and 25 were injured in Magura as AL, BNP clashed yesterday and the day before while in Pabna BCL, JCD locked in clash on Sunday.
A Jubo Dal leader was hacked to death allegedly by rivals in Sharsa of Jessore on Monday night. Victim Solaiman Hossain, 45, was son of Belayat Hossain and president of Lakkhanpur union Jubo Dal unit, according to a correspondent.
Police and locals said, Solaiman was sitting in his shop at Lakkhanpur Bazar when a gang of 8/10 men all of a sudden appeared there at 8pm and blasted a few bombs to create panic in the area.
Then they hacked Solaiman indiscriminately with lethal weapons leaving him critically injured. Solaiman was rushed to Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared him dead.
A case was filed in this connection with Sharsa police station.
Our correspondent in Magura reports: At least 25 people were injured and eight houses were destroyed during clashes between the supporters of AL and BNP at village Kushabaria yesterday and on Monday night.
Police and locals said, there was a longstanding rivalry between AL organising secretary of Ward No. 3 under Moghi union in Sadar upazila Sadruddin Molla and BNP unit's general secretary Jalaluddin Ahmed of the same locality.
On Monday evening, supporters of Jalaluddin severely beat up 14 people of the rival group after a row over demarcation of a disputed land, triggering a violent clash yesterday which left at least 11 more people injured.
Both the groups used lethal weapons during yesterday clash that lasted for over two hours from 11:30am.
At one stage, supporters of both sides swooped on the houses of their rivals. Eight houses were destroyed in the attacks and counterattacks.
The seriously injured 15 were identified as Mahfuzur Rahman, 30, Nazrul, 50, Badsha, 50, Kamrul, 50, Nazmul, 15, Motiar, 45, Rabiul, 30, Nannu, 42, Wahid, 41, Murad, 26, Sagar, 30, Tabibur, 40, Mofizur, 32, and Hafizur, 55. They were admitted to Magura Sadar hospital.
In Pabna, BCL and JCD locked in clashes on Sunday noon in Pabna Edward College over allowing the outsider cadres on the college campus.
During the incident, the BCL activists ransacked four rooms of the college hostel, reports our correspondent.
College sources said, the JCD backed outsider cadres beat up Md. Alam, the driver of college bus on Saturday afternoon. As it mounted tension in the college, the college authorities tried to amicably settle the matter at noon.
When the negotiation meeting was on the outsiders again entered the campus triggering clashes between BCL and JCD activists.
Sources said, during the meeting some BCL activists ransacked two rooms of degree hostels and two rooms of SM hostel and a telephone shop near the college.
