Doctor sued for private practice in office hours
The Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court here on Monday issued arrest warrant against a doctor of Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital for doing private practice violating government rules.
Police said Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate AKM Fazlul Haq filed the case on Sunday against Dr Jahanara Begum Munni, assistant professor of Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department of the hospital.
In the case, the complainant stated that his wife Rabeya Shultana went to Dr Munni's private chamber with a complaint of abdominal pain at around 12:30pm on Sunday. After examining Rabeya, Dr Munni charged Tk 300 to her as fee violating Section 4 of 1974 Act.
The Section 4 of 1974 Act states that government officials will get free treatment from any physician of any state-run hospital. According to the Section 11 of 1974 Act, family members of any government servant will get same medical facilities.
In the case, the complainant also mentioned that the doctor was doing private practice during office hours violating government rules.
Contacted, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station said they received the arrest warrant issued by the court against Dr Jahanara Begum Munni.
Sources said Dr Munni left Dinajpur for Dhaka on Sunday night.
