AKTEL Kaptai network opens

Post and Telecommuni-cations Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju formally inaugurated the AKTEL network at Kaptai upazila in Rangamati hill district yesterday.
The minister at his residence in the capital's Banani area received a call from State Minister for CHT Affairs Dipankar Talukdar as part of the inauguration.
Ahmed said as per its election manifesto, the government is working tirelessly to develop the sector to build a Digital Bangladesh by 2021.
He said they have already introduced TeleTalk mobile phone network in 20 upazilas of the Chittagong Hill Tracts to upgrade people's lifestyle.
“It's a milestone in the country's telecom services,” he added.
Mentioning government's recent initiatives, Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju said the government gave free land-phone connections in every upazilas.
The government, he said, also reduced the broadband internet connection fees to Tk 800 from Tk 1,000 and fees for lease-line connections of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd (BTCL) to Tk 5,000 from Tk 12,200.
The minister said the BTCL land-phone subscribers increased by 50,000 to 9 lakh in a year. “We hope to give at least another 10 million phone connections by 2012.”
BTCL Managing Director Khabiruzzaman and TeleTalk Managing Director Md Mojibur Rahman were also present on the occasion.
