HC asks govt to free area from traffic jam
The High Court yesterday directed the government to take steps to keep the area in front of the Shahparan (R) Mazar in Sylhet and its adjacent highway free from traffic jam so that the devotees can offer their prayers smoothly during the period of Eid-ul-Azha.
The court also issued a rule upon the government to explain within four weeks why setting up of a cattle market in front of the Shahparan (R) shrine ahead of Eid-ul-Azha should not be declared illegal.
Deputy commissioner of Sylhet, Sadar Upazila chairman and Thana Nirbahi Officer were asked to reply to the rule.
The High Court bench of Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury came up with the order upon a writ petition filed by Md Ishrab Ali, a resident of Khadimpur union in Sylhet Sadar.
