Banks asked to freeze Proshika chief's accounts
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) yesterday asked the commercial banks to freeze all the accounts of Proshika Chairperson Qazi Faruk Ahmed and his family members.
It also asked them to provide the account details of detained Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman and former BNP lawmaker Habibul Islam Habib.
Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the NBR directed the commercial banks to freeze all the accounts, assets kept in the vaults, and fixed deposit receipts of Proshika Chairperson Faruk, his wife Shahana Ahmed, son Kazi Golan Musaddir, daughter Kazi Rifat Jabin Ahmed, Faruk's other son Kazi Rubiyat Ahmed, Rubiyat's wife Farhanaz Matin Ahmed, Rubiyat's daughter Kazi Enya Ahmed, and Faruk's sister Begum Syada Khatun.
Besides, NBR also asked the banks concerned to give it the account details of Sardar Abu Taher, public relations officer of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) and four relatives of the detained Khulna mayor.
As per the directives, the banks must provide the NBR with all the information within a week.
