Loew confident of good finish
Germany coach Joachim Loew says his side must win their last two Euro 2008 qualifier games against Cyprus and Wales to boost confidence after they were humbled 3-0 by the Czech Republic last month.
Germany became the first side to qualify for next summer's European Championships, to be held in Austria and Switzerland next June, by drawing with the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on October 13.
But they were hammered 3-0 by the Czech Republic in Munich four days later and Loew insists his side beat Cyprus in Hanover next Saturday and Wales in Frankfurt to give them some confidence.
"We want to finish this good year with two wins. It is always important to begin a New Year with the memory of a win," said Loew.
"Our defeat against the Czech Republic was an accident, perhaps it was expected after we booked our ticket for Euro 2008, but it is something we have to work to put behind us."
The Czech Republic's win put them top of Group D and bumped Germany down to second, but both sides have 23 points with seven wins, two draws and a defeat each.
Loew will use the games against Cyprus and the Wales as an opportunity to give players like midfielder Tim Borowski plus striker Mike Hanke and Oliver Neuville, who were in last year's World Cup squad to prove themselves.
