Tahirpur BNP confce foiled due to feud, Section 144 in Boda

The conference of Tahirpur upazila BNP under Sunamganj district could not be held on Wednesday night due to intra-party clash while Section 144 was imposed on a market premises where two factions of Boda upazila BNP under Panchagarh convened conference at the same time yesterday.
In Sunamganj, district BNP Convener Fazlul Haque Aspia and joint Convener Dr Rafique Chowdhury were also assaulted during the incident, reports our staff correspondent from Sylhet.
The conference of Tahirpur upazila unit began at around 2:00pm at upazila auditorium with upazila Convener Nurul Islam in the chair.
Leaders and activists of seven union committees and councillors attended the conference where Aspia was the chief guest. District unit joint conveners Nasir Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Dr Rafique Chowdhury and Anisul Haque also addressed the conference.
The trouble began at around 8:00pm when the leaders and councillors sat in a meeting to form the upazila committee. Some of them proposed for forming the full-pledged committee through voting or negotiation by the presidents and general secretaries of the union committees while the chief guest asked for doing the job through voting by the councillors.
At this stage, the councillors and leaders and activists got divided and locked in a clash, leaving 25 including Aspia and Rafiq Chowdhury injured. Upazila Chhatra Dal President Mehedi Hasan Ujjal also came under attack as he sided with Aspia.
Prothom Alo Correspondent Golam Sarwar Liton, Bhorer Kagoj Correspondent Tariqul Islam and Amader Shomoy correspondent Raju Ahmed sustained injuries and took first aid at the upazila health complex. Unruly activists also snatched camera from Jugantor Correspondent Habib Sarwar Azad and the mobile from Dinkal Correspondent Abdur Razzaque.
Police reached the scene and brought the situation under control at around 8:30pm.
According to our Thakurgaon Correspondent, Section 144 was imposed on NCDP market premises in Chandanbari Union under Boda upazila as two factions of BNP called upazila conference there at same time.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boda Police Station said Additional District Magistrate Nazrul Islam imposed Section 144 at the venue and its adjacent areas to avert possible clash between the two BNP factions.
BNP Boda upazila Convener Mothaher Hossain arranged upazila unit conference on the market premises at 10:00am where Joint Convener of District BNP and also Boda Upazila Chairman Abdul Aziz called conference of the unit at same time.
