Patuakhali municipal acting chairman faces extortion charge

An extortion case has been filed by a day labourer against the acting chairman of Patuakhali Pourasabha, Abu Zafar Samsudddin.
Mizan Sikder, a day labourer of Nutan Bazaar area here filed the case with Patuakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Sunday.. He alleged that the acting Pourasabha chairman took Tk 10,000 from him as extortion.
The court asked the Sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) to take legal action in this regard.
According to the case, Bellal, son of Mizan Sikder worked on temporary basis as a worker in the municipality in its special immunisation drive for eradication of polio disease.
Later, Mizan prayed for a permanent job for his son Bellal. The acting chairman demanded Tk 10,000 from Mizan promising job of a sweeper for his son with a monthly salary of Tk 2,000. Accordingly, Mizan said he gave him Tk 10,000 on June 22 this year but in vain.
On contact, Samsuddin refuted the allegation saying a false case was filed against him with the court. He also said that he does not know Mizan.
