Bidding today for 10 power plants

To generate 820MW

Power Development Board (PDB) today receives bids for 10 public sector power plants totalling 820 megawatt capacity--which, till now, is the biggest initiative of the government in the power sector.
Like its bid for 530 MW rental power project that closed on October 29, the tender for these 10 plants generated tremendous interest among investors. Till yesterday, the PDB sold 122 tender documents.
Sources said the PDB aims to complete the tender evaluation process within 45 days from today.
However, the PDB is already running behind the schedule with the evaluation of eight rental power projects in which 63 offers were made. The PDB had targeted to complete the evaluation within three days or, by the first week of November.
Sources said the evaluation might not be completed before next week.
The PDB floated the tender in mid-September. Most of these projects will be installed with dual-fuel capacity; they would either operate on diesel or furnace oil. Only one of these 10 plants would be gas fired.
The dual-fuel plants would be Gopalganj 100 MW, Hathazari 100 MW, Dohazari 100 MW, Bera (Pabna) 70 MW, Katakhali (Rajshahi) 50 MW, Shantahar 50 MW, Baghabari 50 MW, Faridpur 50 MW, and Daudkandi 50 MW. The lone gas-fired power plant will be set up at Ashuganj with 200 MW capacity.
Bidders will have to submit $1 million bid bond for the 200 MW power plant, $300,000 for a 100 MW plant, $240,000 for the 70 MW plant and $150,000 for a 50 MW plant.
