Two BCL leaders arrested for attacking police
Two leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were arrested yesterday for attack on police in Khagrachhari while bail prayers of three Barisal medical students, arrested on charge of beating police, rejected on Sunday.
Our Correspondent in Khagrachhari reports: Two BCL leaders of Dighinala upazila unit were arrested on charge of injuring two policemen in an attack at 10:30 pm on Sunday.
The arrestees are Dighinala Chhatra League president Mohammad Zahangir Alam and unit member Mohammad Ershad Ali.
Police said, the incident occurred when a group of 40-50 BCL cadres led by Zahangir attacked local BNP office and ransacked it at Thanapara.
As police beat up some BCL men to bring the situation under control, the BCL cadres attacked the local police station throwing stone and brick bat. During the incident, sub-inspector (SI) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, constable Mostafa Mia were injured and later admitted to upazila heath complex.
According to police, the BCL cadres also attacked the nearby upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) office and damaged its windows. Later, two separate cases were field for ransacking BNP office and attack on police.
Our Correspondent in Barisal says, Mainuddin Islam, chief judicial magistrate of Barisal on Sunday rejected bail prayers of three students of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and sent them to jail after they surrendered in a case filed for beating up a police constable on March 2, 2008.
The accused are Ashikuddoha Asif of final year, S M Ayub and Golam Shahriar Rafi of fourth year.
Masum Billah, constable of Bhola district police force came to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital as a guard of an under-treatment prisoner on March 2, 2008.
While guarding the prisoner, Masum asked others not to crowd the room of the prisoner for security reasons on March 25, 2008.
At this, the three accused called Masum to another room and beat him up injuring him severely.
Constable Masum later lodged a case with Barisal Kotwali police and charge sheet against the accused was submitted on September 30, 2008.
