Khulna mayor sent to jail after remand
A Khulna court yesterday sent Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman to district jail.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman gave the order after Tayebur was produced before the court at 12:30pm.
The law enforcers did not pray for any further remand of the detained KCC mayor. The court has ordered the authorities concerned to provide the mayor with proper facilities in prison.
The detective branch (DB) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) will investigate one of the six extortion cases filed against the mayor and others.
Alam Howlader, a fish trader, filed the case against the mayor and others for extortion on November 5.
Tayebur Rahman was arrested from his Dhaka residence on November 2 night and brought to Khulna the next day.
