BNP observes National Solidarity Day today
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) observes the National Revolution and Solidarity Day today marking the civil-military "uprising" that led to release of then army chief Ziaur Rahman on this very day in 1975.
The party has drawn up elaborate programmes including discussion to observe the day.
Political parties and different social organisations observe the day from different historical perspective.
While BNP and its alliances celebrate today National Revolution and Solidarity Day, the ruling Awami League and its front organisations consider it as the day of "killing of freedom fighters".
The Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rob) observes it as the day of civil-military revolution.
As a part of its programmes, BNP will place wreath at the grave of late president Ziaur Rahman at 10:00am. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and other top leaders of the party will participate in the programme.
BNP will hoist party flag at its central office in the city at 6:00am. It will also hold a discussion at the Engineers' Institute at 3:00pm.
On the occasion, Khaleda Zia in a message congratulated countrymen and Bangladeshi expatriates. She termed November 7 as an outstanding day in the national history and said the day was the first step of the country's development.
She called on people to be united to protect national interests.
Different organisations will bring out processions, hold rallies and arrange discussions to mark the day.
