Land port authority chief visits Hili
The chairman of Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA) Md Aftab Hossain visited Hili land port yesterday.
The port is expected to be commissioned on November 15, according to the port sources.
The import and export operation under the private management of Panama Port Link Ltd was to start yesterday, but it was suspended due to surprise visit of the BLPA chairman.
Regarding the inaugural ceremony, Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner office will hold a meeting at Hili in Dinajpur today.
The BLPA chairman will attend the meeting as chief guest.
According to Ananta Kumar Chatterjee Nepal, managing director of Panama Port Link Ltd, necessary infrastructures including 5 warehouses, loading and unloading places for trucks and security room have been built on 10 acres land to operate the port activities.
The past BNP government initiated to operate Hili land port under private operator to accelerate trade with India and accordingly the port development work was awarded to Panama Port Link Ltd through bidding in 2005.
As per that agreement, Panama will continue operation of the land port for 25 years.
Recently, the joint commissioner of customs visited the private operator's development site at Hili land port and held a meeting with clearing and forwarding agents and importers.
During the meeting, Panama was asked for going into operation within November 15.
