Mother of slain Shibli seeks justice

Mother of slain Shibli Begum at a press conference yesterday demanded punishment of the killers of her daughter.
Shibli Begum of village Pabantair under Saghata upazila was married to Moshiur Rahman of the same village on March 3 in 2006, said Shibli's mother Marjina Bewa, reading out a written statement at the conference at Gaibandha Press Club hall room.
After a year, Moshiur started torturing Shibli for dowry and at one stage divorced her for failing to meet the demand, Marjina said.
Shibli filed a case claiming unpaid den mohar of Tk one lakh 20 thousand and the trial court gave verdict ordering Moshiur Rahman to pay Tk 1,25,799 as den mohar to the plaintiff.
Being furious, Moshiur on September 18 night this year kidnapped Shibli, strangled her to death and hung the body from a tree branch, the victim's mother said at the press conference.
Police recovered the body next morning and sent to Gaibandha hospital for autopsy.
