BISIC chair, secy asked to appear before court Nov 14
The High Court yesterday directed the chairman and secretary of Bangladesh Institute of Small Industry and Cottage (BISIC) to appear before this court on November 14 in connection with a contempt of court charge against them.
The High Court bench of Syed Mahmud Hossain and Quamrul Islam Siddiqui passed the order after hearing a contempt of court petition jointly filed by 33 officials and workers of BISIC.
The petitioners stated in the petition that the High Court on June 4 last year in a verdict directed BISIC Chairman Ashraf Mohammad Iqbal and its Secretary Mohammad Yameen Chowdhury to pay the due time scales to the petitioners within 30 days.
The BISIC authorities filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict.
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on April 5 this year upheld the High Court verdict, dismissing the appeal of BISIC.
But, the BISIC authorities did not pay the due pay scales to the petitioners as per the High Court verdict.
The petitioners recently filed a contempt of court petition with High Court against the BISIC chairman and its secretary.
The court then issued a rule upon the BISIC chairman and secretary to explain why contempt proceedings should not be drawn against them.
As they did not pay the time scales following the High Court rule, the court yesterday directed them to appear before the court for explanation.
Advocate Salahuddin Dolon appeared for the petitioners.
