Voter listing begins in six districts
Work on voter registration and national identity (ID) card with photograph began in Patuakhali, Nilphamari, Kishoreganj, Pabna, Moulvibazar and Manikganj yesterday, report our correspondents.
Barisal divisional commissioner Md Harun Chowdhury opened the work at Keler Pukur Government Primary School in Patuakhali Pourasabha area.
Deputy commissioner (DC) AGM Mir Moshiur Alam, local Army camp In-Charge Lt Col Nurul Momen Khan and acting superintendent of police (SP) Abu Saleh Md Raihan were also present.
In Nilphamari, Brig Gen Jamil Ahmed Khan, NDC, PSC, Commander of 222 Brigade of Bangladesh Army inaugurated the registration work at a formal ceremony held on the Alia Madrassa premises as its chief guest. The programme was presided by the DC of Nilphamari. The work started simultaneously at Kukhapara Government Primary School and Dakkhin Haroa Registered High School. About 32,000 eligible voters are expected to register their names as voters.
In Kishoreganj, Brig Gen Md Zahidur Rahman of 19 Artillery Brigade inaugurated the programme at Kishoreganj Government Adarsha Shishu Bidyalay ground in Sadar upazila here.
The work will continue till December 8, Election Office sources said.
Joint Forces Commanding Officer Lt Col Md Ashiquzzaman, SP Mizanur Rahman, District Election Officer (DEO) Zahid Hossain were present onthe occasion.
In Pabna, data entry work as well as taking photographs of eligible voters started at Pabna Zila School centre in the morning.
Brig Gen Choudhury Hassan Sarwardi, Pabna DC Md Golam Moula and DEO Md Faridul Islam visited different centres.
In Moulvibazar, Brig Gen Murshedul Haque, Commander of 52 Infantry Division, Sylhet region inaugurated the programme at Moulvibazar Kashinath High School center. The function was presided by Moulvibazar DC Md Alkama Siddiquee while it was attended by the Commander of Moulvibazar Army Camp Lt Col M Jahid Hasan, DEO Belayet Hussain Chowdhury and acting chairman of Moulvibazar municipality Ayas Ahmed. The work will continue till December 18.
In Manikganj, the voter listing work was opened by Manikganj DC Ataur Rahman at the Model High School in the district town.
Joint Forces Commanding Officer Lt Col Fakhrul Ahsan, SP Imtiaz Ahmed, DEO Mahfuza Begum and Pourasabha chairman Sudev Saha were also present.
A two-member team of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) visited the voter registration centres in Khagrachhari Pourasabha yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The team led by UNDP Coordination Advisor Alexandra Whight began her visit from Khagrachhari Government High School Centre.
