One joint convener expelled, 2 asked to show cause
Internal feud in BNP Magura district unit has taken a serious turn as Convener Kabir Murad issued show cause notices on two joint conveners of Sreepur upazila unit and expelled a joint convener of Mohammadpur unit on Saturday for their alleged involvement in anti-party activities.
Party sources said joint conveners of Sreepur upazila unit Golam Mustafa and Sanat Kumar Saha, who belong to the faction led by district Joint Convener advocate Mokaddes Hossain, have been asked to explain within five days why disciplinary actions against them will not be taken for their 'anti-party activities'.
Joint convener of Mohammadpur upazila unit Akhteruzzaman was expelled for 'violating' party constitution and 'tarnishing' the image of the party, sources said.
Contacted, Murad confirmed expulsion of Akhteruzzaman and issuance of show cause notices on Mustafa and Sanat. He said action against Akhter was taken for 'violating' party constitution.
Former district unit general secretary Nazimuddin Ahmed, also a leader of anti-Murad faction, said, “Murad cannot expel anyone or issue show cause notice without the decision of the district unit”.
“His unilateral decision will deepen the prevailing crisis in the district and upazila units”, Nazim added.
Echoing the same sentiment, Akhteruzzaman said Kabir Murad will have to pay for his unilateral decision.
Earlier on October 10, a faction of Mohammadpur upazila BNP led by Akhteruzzaman and Matiur Rahman demanded removal of Kabir Murad from the post of district convener accusing him of forming “pocket committees” at union and upazila levels.
Mokaddes faction in the district unit at its extended meeting on October 24 declared convener Kabir Murad 'unwanted' in the district.
