BNP ready to help govt in ensuring welfare of people
BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain yesterday reiterated that his party would extend the hand of cooperation to the government if it works for the welfare of the people.
"We want to work for the welfare of the country as well as the people and we will keep cooperating with you (Awami League-led government), if you intend to do so," Delwar said at a rally at Naya Paltan in the city.
BNP organised the rally to protest the filing of a money-laundering case against the party's senior joint secretary general Tarique Rahman, who is now staying in London for treatment.
The Anti-Corruption Commission on October 26 filed the case against Tarique and his business associate Giasuddin Al Mamun.
Presided over by Khandaker Delwar, the rally was addressed by Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Rafiqul Islam Mia, Abdullah Al Noman, Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Fazlur Rahman Patal, Amanullh Aman and Barkatullah Bulu.
The BNP leaders said the government fears the 'popular image' of Tarique Rahman. So, it filed a new case to prevent him from returning home.
Despite all obstacles, Tarique will return home within two or three months, they added.
Delwar said this government is an autocratic government in nature and it even could not "fulfil a single election pledge".
