Team of EU parliament due tomorrow

An eight-member delegation of the European Parliamentary Committee on Development led by Nirj Deva MEP (UK) will come on a three-day visit to Bangladesh tomorrow.
The delegation constitutes four Members of the European Parliament (MEP) Ms Franziska Keller (Germany), Niccolo Rinaldi (Italy), Jean Lambert (UK) and John Attard-Montalto (Malta) and three other officials.
The delegation will discuss with policy makers in Bangladesh as well as its international partners the overall impact of climate change especially on food security in the country.
A EU release said the climate change issue is of high importance to the European Union and it is committed to help the countries in the front row in the battle against climate change.
Nirj Deva in a statement said, "We are talking about real problems threatening real people. These people are alive today but may be gone tomorrow unless we do something now. What we need is funds and not only talks."
During the visit, the delegation will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the speaker of the parliament, food and disaster management minister, foreign minister, chairpersons of the parliamentary committees on Ministry of Food and Disaster Management, Ministry of Environment and Forest and Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
The delegation will also hold meetings with country representatives of international organizations in Bangladesh and members of local civil society.
On November 2, it will visit two EU funded projects, Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme (CDMP) and Vulnerable Group Development for Ultra-Poor (VGDUP) Programme, in Sirajganj.
On November 3, the Delegation will address a press conference at Brac Centre at 4:30pm.
The Committee on Development is one of the 20 standing committees of the European Parliament. It is the parliament's main representative in promoting, implementing and monitoring the development and policy of the Union's Ministry of Environ-ment and Forest Cooperation.
