SQ Chowdhury granted bail
The High Court yesterday granted an anticipatory bail for six months to BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury in a defamation case filed in Panchagarh.
The High Court bench of Justice AFM Abdur Rahman and Justice Md Emdadul Haque Azad also issued a rule upon the government to explain within four weeks why SQ Chowdhury should not be granted regular bail in the case.
The court passed the order upon a bail petition filed by SQ Chowdhury. He appeared before the HC bench for bail yesterday.
Md Sheikh Abul Kashem, general secretary of Bangabandhu Parishad of Boda Upazila in Panchagarh, filed the defamation case on October 20 with the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of the district on charge of making derogatory remarks about the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family.
Lawyer for SQ Chowdhury, advocate Shah Manjurul Hoque told The Daily Star that his client earlier got bail from the High Court in two other defamation cases filed against him on the same charge.
