Jhenidah recalls great martyr Hamidur today
The 38th death anniversary of Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman will be observed today at the memorial complex built in honour of the great martyr of Liberation War.
Teachers of Hamidur Rahman Degree College and staff of Birshreshtha Sipahi Hamidur Rahman Smiriti Jadughar O Pathagar at Hamidnagar have made all preparations to observe the day in a befitting manner.
The programmes beginning with placing of wreaths at his portrait at 11:30am will include Qurankhwani, milad mahfil, discussion meeting and feeding the destitute, said Amiruzzaman Shanti, convener of the observation committee.
People from all walks of life will attend the programmes.
Hamidur Rahman, while serving in the then East Bengal Regiment in 1971, joined the Liberation War. He embraced martyrdom during a fight with the Pakistani occupation forces on Dhali frontier in Sreemongal under Sylhet on October 28.
In recognition to his bravery and sacrifice for freedom of the motherland, he was posthumously awarded the highest gallantry award Birshreshtha after the country's independence.
Born in 1954 at Khordakhalishpur village in Moheshpur upazila of Jhenidah, Hamidur Rahman was the second among his brothers and sisters. The village has been renamed Hamidnagar and Birshreshtha Sipahi Hamidur Rahman Smriti Jadughar O Pathagar was established there in 2007 to keep memory of the great hero alive in the mind of the future generation.
The government should take proper initiative to observe death anniversary of the great hero, said Hamidur Rahman's younger brother Fazlur Rahman.
