Thousands of people yesterday put up barricades on rail tracks at Manikkhali station under Katiadi upazila protesting inclusion of the upazila in the proposed Bhairab district.
People from different villages of the upazila gathered at the rail station in the morning and put up barricades on tracks, disrupting train services.
Dhaka-bound inter-city Egarosindur Express and a Mymensingh-bound local train remained stranded at the station for around three hours, causing sufferings to the passengers.
Local AL leader Burhan Uddin Khan, CPB leader Syed Nazrul Islam and BNP leader Mustafizur Rahman also jointed the agitation and addressed a protest rally at the station.
Besides, the students of Gurudayal Government College in Kishoreganj yesterday took out a procession in the town protesting the move to make Bhairab a separate district.
