Kuwati NGO comes to aid of Bangladeshi workers
The Social Works Society, a non-government organisation of Kuwait, has come forward to help 1200 homeless Bangladeshi workers in Kuwait.
The workers who used to work as cleaners were driven out of their rented houses last month as their company failed to pay house rent for over a year.
They were compelled to sleep in schools and mosques in Hassawi of Kuwait, reported Arab Times yesterday.
Last week, the workers staged a sit-in at the Labour Department in Shaab urging the authorities to take necessary steps in this regard.
The Social Works Society led by Sheikha Bibi Nasser Al-Sabah has arranged accommodation for them. It will also oversee the repatriation process and providing compensations to the workers who want to return to their homeland.
The workers told The Arab Times that General Manager of Social Works Society Faisal Al-Masood last Wednesday met the workers and heard their grievances.
“He told us not to worry about anything. He also said our problems would be addressed in next few days,” a worker was quoted as saying.
The official has also asked for a list of workers wishing to return to their homeland, the worker added.
The Bangladeshi workers were employed as cleaners at government schools with monthly salary as low as 20 Kuwaiti dinars.
