Adviser wants Ctg port's further efficiency
The communications adviser has asked for better coordinated efforts to keep up the success achieved so far in improving activities at the Chittagong Port and to enhance its efficiency further.
“Our goal is one and it is to improve the efficiency of the port,” Major General (rtd) M A Matin told the officials of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) and Chittagong Customs House in a meeting yesterday at the at Bandar Bhaban.
The adviser also gave them a directive to form a committee with representation from both the authorities. This committee will put containers and other items occupying the port yard on auction in every twenty days.
In this regard the CPA officials said there were 3192 containers and some 900 vehicles, out of 4000, could be put on auction. Of these vehicles, 500 have been lying in the port for over six months.
CPA Chairman Commodore M Faruq, Customs Commissioner (Import) Lutfur Rahman, Customs Commissioner (Export) Magroob Ahmad, CPA Member (Engineering) ASM Tayab, Member (Finance), Md Harun Mia and Chief of Planning Hadi Hussain Babul also spoke.
Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Hossain Jamil also attended the meeting.
Later, the adviser visited the under construction Port Park Container Yard, handling operations at different jetties inside CCT and NCT.
According to sources, the CPA is setting up the Port Park Container Yard on 15.49 acres of land in front of the Port Hospital at a cost of Tk 47 crore.
When completed in next March, the container yard would raise the total capacity of Chittagong port to 30,000 TEUs containers.
