Girl 'raped', killed
A ten-year old schoolgirl was allegedly violated and killed at Nayapara village in Dhubaura upazila on Thursday night.
The victim was identified as Shahnaz Begum, daughter of Abul Kashem of Digalbagh village of the upazila. She was a student of class four of a local primary school.
Police recovered the body from beneath of the cowshed of the rapists yesterday morning while agitating villagers set fire to their house.
Local people and police sources said Manik Miah, 35, and Sujan Miah, 25, sons of Syed Ali, kidnapped Shahnaz from the bank of the Netai river, when she was returning home after selling milk in Goshgoan Bazar on Thursday evening.
The relatives of the victim along with local people surrounded the house of the rapists on the night and informed police of the matter for taking action.
A police team led by SI Noor Hossain reached the spot yesterday morning and arrested two brothers--Manik and Sujan and their mother and two sisters. Police later recovered the body.
Police alleged that at one stage of agitation, local people attacked on them, leaving three policemen--Mosharraf Hossain, Golal Mustafa and Willton Barak--injured.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident.
While filing of this report at 10:00pm yesterday, police said a preparation was going on to file a case in this connection.
