Bus helper arrested for raping girl

The police arrested a bus helper for raping a girl at Sayedabad Bus Terminal in the city in the early hours of yesterday.
The arrestee was identified as Monir Hossain.
The police also took the 12-year-old girl to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. She was admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) at the hospital.
Mazharul Islam, a sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station, told The Daily Star that the girl came from Kachua of Chandpur by a bus to work as a domestic help at a house in the city.
Although she had a mobile phone number of her employer, she could not contact him because the mobile phone was switched off. So, she was waiting at the bus terminal at night.
At around 4:00am, Monir and two others youths -- Akbar and Sohel -- told her that the place was not safe and asked her to go with them to the nearest police camp for her safety, the police said quoting the arrestee.
But they took him to an old bus and raped her.
The police arrested Monir but two others managed to escape.
Meanwhile, another 11-year-old girl was raped by a youth at a launch in Sadar Ghat Launch Terminal area on Wednesday.
Later, she was admitted to DMCH.
The girl, who hails from Kalindi of Keraniganj, sells water in the launch terminal for a living.
