Father Timm honoured

Vatican Ambassador to Dhaka Archbishop Joseph Marino yesterday handed over a medal and parchment to Father Richard W Timm CSC at a simple ceremony at the Vatican embassy in the city.
Vatican's Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace gave the award to the Catholic priest in recognition of his distinguished work and contribution in the last 58 years for the people of Bangladesh in the fields of education, charity works, justice and peace.
Terming Father Dr Timm as a teacher, author, eminent scientist and advocate for human rights, Vatican diplomat Archbishop Joseph Marino said Timm made immense contribution to the growing of Caritas Bangladesh, a Catholic charity.
Other speakers recalled Father Timm's role in reporting to the US government in Washington of the atrocities, which took place during the Liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971.
Father Timm said his purpose on earth was to serve the will of God by serving people, especially those neglected and in need.
