Ctg road to be named after Mannan: Mayor

The city road stretching from Chawkbazar to Bahhaderhat to be named after former minister and city Awami League president late MA Mannan as a respect and recognition to the seasoned politician.
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Alhaj ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury announced this at a remembrance meeting of late MA Mannan held at Muslim Institute Hall yesterday.
One of the organiser of Liberation War in 1971 as region deputy commander of Bangladesh Liberation Force (BLF) and former labour and employment minister of Sheikh Hasina government in 1996-2001 MA Mannan died of cardiac arrest immediate after Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at Jamiatul Falah Mosque in the city on September 21 last.
Chittagong city unit of Awami League organised the meeting held with Mayor Alhaj ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury in the chair.
City Awami League leaders, including AKM Belayet Hossain, Advocate Ibrahim Hossain Babul, CCC ward councilors Badiul Alam, Ahmedur Rahman Siddique, Zahirul Alam Dobash, MA Naser, Rehana Kabir Ranu, and Jubo League leaders Syed Mahmudul Haque, Abu Hanif, Jashim Uddin and Swapan Sen, among others, took part in the discussion.
Speaking at the meeting, the mayor said late MA Mannan will remain alive in the heart of people of Chittagong for his proven honesty, dedication and commitment to the nation and the country.
He said late MA Mannan worked for commoners throughout his long political career imbued with the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and democracy.
