6 motorbikers killed in crashes

Six motorbike riders were killed in two separate road accidents in Faridpur and Comilla districts yesterday, which suspended the traffic movement for a few hours in the areas.
Our Faridpur correspondent reports, three motorbike riders were killed as a bus rammed their motorbike on Dhaka-Khulna highway at Bagattbazar under Modhukhali upazila of Faridpur.
The dead were identified as motorbike rider Salam Sheik alias Salauddin, 35, hailed from Gowalpara village of Bagat union and pillion passengers Zahid Sheikh, 30, and Maruf Kazi, 25, both from Ramkantapur village under Modhukhali upazila of the district.
Police said, a Dhaka-bound bus of 'Meghna Enterprise' from Magura hit the motorbike at about 10:00am, leaving Salam dead on the spot and two others seriously injured.
Later, the injured died on their way to Modhukhali Upazila Health Complex.
Agitating locals blockaded the road protesting the accident.
A good number of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road and casued troubles to the passengers.
On information, police rushed to the spot and removed the barricade at about 12:00pm.
The bodies were sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police seized the bus but its driver and helpers managed to flee.
In another incident, three motorbike riders were burnt to death as their motorbike caught fire after colliding with a covered van on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Doyapur of Sadar Dakkhin upazila yesterday noon, our Comilla correspondent reports.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
According to the police, the accident occurred at about 3:00pm when a Dhaka-bound covered van collided head-on with a Comilla-bound motorbike.
After the collision, the petrol tank of the motorbike caught fire that burnt alive its passengers.
The fire soon spread to the covered van but its driver managed to escape.
On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after half an hour's effort.
Traffic movement on the highway was disrupted for two hours following the accident.
The bodies were sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
A case was filed in this connection.
