Bullet-hit gang leader arrested

Ringleader of a criminal gang with bullet wounds and three of his accomplices were arrested in the city yesterday.
Rapid Action Battalion sources said the ringleader Aminul sustained bullet injuries in a shootout between Rab members and his accomplices at Gulistan Park at around 11:00am, as the elite force raided the park acting on a tip-off.
Aminul and his accomplices -- Md Ershad Khan, 26, Muhammad Mujibur Rahman, 38, and Abul Hashem, 28, -- were arrested following the shootout, Rab said, adding that two pistols and 32 rounds of bullets were also recovered from them.
However, Aminul, who is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, told The Daily Star that Rab members arrested him from Shyamoli around 8:00pm on Wednesday and they took him to Gulistan Park around 1:00pm yesterday.
He also said that Rab members wanted to shoot him dead but finally spared him after he begged for his life. The Rab members then shot him in his legs, he added.
Rab sources said Aminul and his gang used to commit mugging and robbery in Motijheel, Sabujbagh and Malibagh areas.
