SC may send opinion to president in two days

The Supreme Court may send within a day or two to the president its opinion on the reference on whether the offences committed during the BDR mutiny can be tried under the military law.
SC Registrar Shawkat Hossain told The Daily Star last night that the apex court has almost prepared its opinion on the presidential reference and that the opinion may be sent to the president by the end of this week.
"After completing all the processes regarding the presidential reference, the Supreme Court will send the opinion to the president though the registrar's office," he said.
The 11-member full bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice MM Ruhul Amin, concluded the hearing on the presidential reference on September 3 after six days of deliberations by 10 amici curiae.
Seven of the 10 amici curiae have given opinions against trying BDR personnel involved in the February 25-26 mutiny under the army act.
The SC appointed 10 senior lawyers as amici curiae on August 19 for hearing their opinions on the presidential reference.
