A sweetmeat shop owner was shot and injured when a group of extortionists opened fire at his shop at Kafrul in the city yesterday.
In another incident, a snatcher was shot at by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members at Mohammadpur.
A gang of four extortionists shot Madhab Chandra Ghosh, owner of Bhagyakul Mistanno Bhandar at Kachukhet, at around 4:00pm, police sources said. The extortionists left the scene immediately.
Local people rushed injured Ghosh to a nearby hospital.
Meanwhile, a team of Rab-2 arrested Faruk Hossain, aged around 26, with bullet wound following an exchange of gunshots with a gang of muggers who were in a yellow cab.
Rab said Faruk was injured during the encounter with the muggers. He is undergoing treatment at Pangu Hospital.
