Prepare list of ladies' clubs, women assocs
A parliamentary standing committee yesterday asked the authorities concerned to prepare a list of all ladies' clubs and women associations located in the city and to engage them in creating awareness among the residents about family planning.
It also asked the ministries concerned to take steps to remove irregularities and corruption in different women associations and ladies' clubs as well.
“We have asked the authorities concerned to prepare a list of women associations and ladies' clubs in the city. We want to use those associations in creating awareness about family planning and empowering women,” Meher Afroz, chairperson of the committee, told The Daily Star after a meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
“We have given one month's time to the concerned authorities to prepare the list,” said Afroz, also a ruling Awami League lawmaker.
There are allegations of irregularities in different ladies' clubs and women organisations. “We, therefore, asked the concerned authorities to verify the issue.”
