University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) arranged a solo sitar evening at its auditorium on November 3. Spain-based Bangladeshi sitar artiste Sazed Ul Alam performed different raaga, dhun and more at the programme.
Sazed started his performance with a slow tempo and gradually accelerated, ending with sixteen beat. Renowned percussionist Tapan Sarkar accompanied Sazed on tabla.
After his first rendition, Sazed performed a fusion of folk and Tagore tunes. The last performance of the evening was more close to dhun, according the sitar artiste.
Professor Rafiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of ULAB, delivered a thanks-giving speech after the performance. Renowned personalities including artistes and musicians were present at the programme.
Tagore singer and member of BOG, ULAB, Ameenah Ahmed, introduced the artiste.
Sazed Ul Alam was born in Chittagong and began his music career as a member of the band 'The Souls', at the age of 15. He has taken music lessons in different places of India and Europe to perfect the art of playing sitar, guitar and several other instruments and has been deeply involved in Indian classical music.
Sazed has studied Indian classical music under Acharya Sri Pandit Bimolendu Mukherjee, Ustad Jamal Uddin Bhartiya, Roshan Jamal, Ashit Banerjee, Raj Bhan Singh and Badri Maharaj.
He has also worked with western musicians including Nacho Cano, Giovanni Hidalgo, Willian Cepeda, Amores, Omar Sosa and many others.
Sazed has had the honour of performing for the King of Sweden and legendary boxer Muhammad Ali.
