Train derails in Gazipur
A freight train derailed at South Outer Signal adjacent to Gazipur Railway Junction yesterday disrupting rail communications on Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Rajshahi routes.
Sources said 15 wagons of the train were derailed at about 2:30pm.
Assistant Station Master of Gazipur Junction Gazi Ashraful Alam said the compartments, which derailed, were empty. The compartments at the back were laden with goods which were not damaged.
A railway official preferring anonymity said that the arrangement of the compartments were wrong (wrong marshalling). He said the train was carrying heavy load at the backside. As a result when the drive made a hard brake while entering the station, the empty compartments derailed at the pressure of the backside compartments.
Station Master of Gazipur Junction Md Ziauddin said rescue personnel have already reached on the spot.
