6 killed in road accidents
Six people were killed and 27 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Mymensingh and Tangail in the last two days.
Our Staff Correspondent reports: Three women were killed in three separate road accidents in the city yesterday.
Rita Akhter, 18, a garment worker was rammed by a bus near Sayedabad bus stand while crossing the road on her way to North Jatrabari at around 10:00pm on Thursday.
She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where she succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of yesterday.
Meanwhile, police recovered the body of an unidentified woman, aged around 65, near Shyamoli Cinema Hall yesterday morning.
Police also recovered the body of another unidentified woman, 50, from Darus Salam road at Mirpur at around 7:30am.
Police suspects that she might have been killed in a road accident.
Our Correspondent in Mymensingh adds: A microbus driver was killed and seven others injured in a road accident on Mymensingh-Haluaghat highway at Phulpur in the district yesterday.
The victim was identified as Anwar Kamal, 30, son of late Ismail Hossain of Kishoreganj Sadar.
Tarakanda police said the accident took place at around 3:00pm when a Phulpur bound microbus from Brahmanbaria collided head-on with a Mymensingh-bound passenger bus from Haluaghat.
The injured were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where the on duty doctors declared Ismail dead.
Meanwhile, a man was killed and 20 others injured in another road accident at Battala at Iswarganj in the district on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj highway on Thursday night.
The victim was identified as Lokman, 35, hailed from village Tarati in Iswarganj.
Police said the accident occurred when a Mymensingh-bound passenger bus from Kishoreganj skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch, leaving Lokman dead on the spot.
The injured were rushed to local clinics, police added.
Our Correspondent in Tangail adds: An army man was killed in a road accident at Ghatail in the district on Thursday.
The victim was identified as Mohammad Shahidullah, 45, a sergeant clerk at Ghatail Cantonment in Tangail.
The accident occurred at around 6:00pm when a Tangail-bound oil lorry from Madhupur hit the motorbike Shahidullah was riding on from behind in Ghatail Bus Stand area, leaving him dead on the spot, sources in police said.
He was going to his village home at Hizla village in Kalihati from Ghatail Cantonment.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
Police also seized the lorry but the driver managed to escape.
