2.5 kg gold seized in N'ganj, one arrested

Police arrested a man along with 2.5 kg of gold worth about Tk 50 lakh from Meghna Toll Plaza area in Sonargaon upazila on Thursday midnight.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a Dhaka-bound bus from Feni and arrested its passenger Shamim Uddin, 32, an alleged member of an organised gang of gold smugglers.
During a search, the police recovered gold bars, kept in four packets, from his possession.
The police arrested his two brothers -- Hafez Ahmed Masum and Nazrul Islam -- yesterday when they came to Sonargoan Police Station and offered OC Shafiqul Alam Tk 5 lakh in bribe to secure the release of Shamim.
