Militancy is a reality
State Minister for Home Affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku yesterday said people are not safe in the country now, no matter if they are on foot or in a car.
"We all are under the watch of militants; it is the reality," the state minister said while inaugurating Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the city.
Tuku called on the people to stand united with the law enforcers to root out militancy from the country.
He also said the government would take every measure to strengthen the hands of law enforcers to improve law and order in the country.
Inspector General of Police Nur Mohammad and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner AKM Shahidul Hoque also spoke at the function with Tejgaon zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Chowdhury Manjurul Kabir in the chair.
IGP Nur Mohammad said the traffic signal fails to stop vehicles. Unless the traffic police stand in front of vehicles, they don't stop.
While talking about the existing traffic jam, the IGP said, "We have heard about removals of old vehicles from the roads for years. But it is not being implemented. Rather a huge number of new vehicles are seen on the streets everyday."
