New US envoy's meeting with foreign secy 'exceptionally warm'
The new US Ambassador in Dhaka Marica Stephens Bloom Bernicat yesterday said she would work with the Bangladesh government to make the bilateral relation stronger.
“We have such a deep and broad relationship. I have a direct mandate to make it even stronger,” Bernicat told reporters after her first meeting with the Bangladesh foreign secretary.
The US envoy, who presented her credentials to President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday, said she looked forward to working with everybody in the government.
Ambassador Bernicat, in her first appearance before the press, did not take any question but hoped that she would soon meet the press formally.
Regarding her meeting with Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque, Ambassador Bernicat said she had an “exceptionally warm” meeting with him and is looking forward to working with the ministry.
She was accompanied by Deputy Chief of Mission David Meale, and Political, Economic and Commercial Officer Pushpinder Dhillon. Director General (America Wing) Mahfuzur Rahman accompanied Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque.
