Netrakona BCL activist killed in infighting
An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student body of the ruling Awami League, was stabbed to death by a group of students following a factional feud at the Netrokona Government College campus today.
The deceased was identified as Iftie, 22, resident of Satpai village of the Sadar upazila, report our Netrakona correspondent.
Iftie was a first year student of the college and also a BCL activist of the college unit, Kawsar Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the Sadar Police Station said.
Describing the incident, the police official said, Akash, 22, another BCL activist and a first year student of the college, equipped with a sharp weapon, swopped on Iftie and stabbed him indiscriminately when he was standing near a cycle stand in the college campus.
Akash, a son of Saiful Islam, secretary of Awami Motor Workers’ League of Netrakona district unit, managed to flee the spot leaving Iftie critically injured around 12:00pm, the OC added.
The victim was sent to the Netrokona Sadar Hospital where the attending doctors declared him dead around 12:30pm.
Political feud between the two has been prevailing since long, the police official said.
Soon after the incident, tense situation is raised in the campus area.
Additional police forces were deployed to avoid any untoward incident in and around the area over the issue, our correspondent said quoting the OC.
