Netherlands beat UAE by 6 wkts
Netherlands beat United Arab Emirates by six wickets in the fourth match of the qualifying rounds of the World T20 ’14 at Sylhet today.
UAE posted a par total of 151 on the board on their return to international stage after 18 years, but were undone by a quality display from Dutch batsmen.
Man of the match Tom Cooper steered the chase with 34 off 26 balls, with support from most of the top order batsmen.
Earlier, United Arab Emirates won the toss and elected to bowl against.
Today’s match marked the return for UAE to international tournaments after 18 years, their last appearance in an ICC event being the 1996 World Cup.
Interestingly, all 11 members of the UAE team made their T20 debut in today's match.
Netherlands, on the other hand, are no stranger to the international stage.
In their first appearance in the WT20’s, they beat England at Lord’s back in 2009.
The match followed a breathtaking encounter between the other two members of the four-team group – Ireland and Zimbabwe – which the former won on the last ball.
Only one team from the group will advance to the next stage of the tournament – the super 10’s.
Four other teams – hosts Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal and Hong Kong – are vying for the remaining spot in the final round from the other group.
