Nasir replaces Mamunul as Sk Jamal captain
Defender Nasiruddin Chowdhury has been appointed new captain of the Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club ahead of Saturday's International FIFA Friendly (Category – II) against Busan I'Park of South Korea. The club's football manager, Anwarul Karim Helal, confirmed the news saying the defender's dedication and performance on the field made them take the decision.
“Nasiruddin (Chowdhury) is a senior player in the team and he led the team to the King's Cup success in Bhutan. He was the captain before Mamunul (Islam) joined last season. So considering Nasir's performance and dedication and leadership qualities, we thought we should make him our captain for the upcoming season,” Helal told The Daily Star yesterday.
Although Helal denied any specific reason behind the change of captaincy, it is belied that the national team skipper's absence in the King's Cup due to his engagement with the Indian Super League franchise Atletico de Kolkata and his waning influence in the side, led to the decision.
