Nagorik brings Manto classics to theatre

Nagorik Natya Sampradaya is set to premiere their latest production “Nam-Gotrohin” today, combining three short stories – “Kaali Shalwar”, “License” and “Hatak”-- by noted Pakistani writer Sadat Hasan Manto.
The show will be held at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) at 7pm. Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Speaker of the Jatya Sangsad, will attend the inauguration ceremony as chief guest.
Adapted and directed by noted Indian theatre director Usha Ganguly, the play sheds light on the lives of marginalised women. Manto, in his writings time and again, depicted the agonies of women.
“Nam-Gotrohin” boasts a heavyweight cast, signaling the return to the stage of the likes of Sara Zaker and Aupee Karim. Pantho Shahriar, Sriya Sharbojoya and Mostafiz Shahin and Rajib Dey portray the other central characters. The stage has been designed by Sanchayan Ghosh while Ashok Pramanik has designed the lights. AK Azad has done the background music.
About the play, Usha Ganguly said, “The three lead characters of the play, Sultana, Enayet and Sugandhi are not confined within a certain boundary, but rather represent women in general, especially Asian women. It is a story about women sacrificing everything and being left to lead deprived and miserable lives.”
Nagarik Natya Sampradaya is dedicating the play to its recently deceased member AK Azad.
