Murder case filed finally

At last the family members filed a murder case with Double Mooring Police Station in Chittagong city on Friday midnight in connection with a rickshaw puller's body that was left to rot on a road for almost eight hours as none of the three nearby police stations bothered about it.

The body of Mostafa Kamal Parvez, 23, with injury marks in the forehead, was recovered from beside rail lines at Ambagan.

Additional Commissioner (crime and operation) of CMP Banaz Kumar Mazumdar said the spot falls under Double Mooring Police Station. They made the "mistake" to avoid investigation which would have been mandatory after filling of the case.

"It is the proof of their inefficiency that they could not differentiate between the areas under their jurisdiction due to their inefficiency. And they had been rebuked. If such incident occurs, they will be punished," Banaz added.

Since the morning, Parvez's family members were trying to file a case with Khulshi and Government Railway Police but could not as GRP said only 10 feet around the rail tracks falls under their jurisdiction but the body was found 16 feet away.

So, they went to Double Mooring Police Station who also refused to take the case, giving the same excuse of the spot being out of their jurisdiction.

Finally on direction of deputy commissioner of CMP, Double Mooring police filed the case.

Contacted, Nurul Alam, officer in charge of Double Mooring Police Station, said they were informed in Friday evening and the family came to them at midnight.

Mostafa had been missing since Thursday afternoon after he went out of his Khulshi residence, according to the family.

Police were yet to confirm whether Parvez was hit by a train or was murdered.
