Mugger injured by cop firing in capital

A mugger was injured as police fired on him when he was mugging a rickshaw passenger in the capital's Jatrabari early yesterday.
The injured, Abdur Razzak, 30, is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
“I along with three others stopped a rickshaw at 5:00am and we were trying to mug the passenger,” he told The Daily Star at DMCH.
Razzak said when police came; his accomplices hurled two crude bombs at police forcing the law enforcers to retaliate by firing on them. One bullet hit Razzak in the knee.
None of the law enforcers were injured, said police.
Meanwhile, a man who was stabbed succumbed to his injuries at DMCH.
The deceased, Zillur Rahman, 35, is a farmer who came to Dhaka from Sherpur in search of work, said Nazrul Islam, the victim's brother. He was stabbed by unidentified miscreants on January 19 in Mohakhali.
