Mother kills 2 daughters
A woman suffering from psychological disorders strangled two minor daughters in Bogra yesterday.
Salma Begum in a letter confessed to killing her daughters Fahmida Islam, 7, and Taslima Islam, 3, and said her husband Faridul Islam was not responsible for the deaths. Police found the letter at their rented flat at Latifpur in Bogra town.
After the murders, she tried to commit suicide by jumping before a truck at Banani intersection and sustained injuries, said Sub-inspector Mir Rayhan, in-charge of the Silimpur police outpost. Local people rescued her and admitted her to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.
Faridul, an executive of City Bank, Bogra branch, at the hospital said his wife had beaten up Fahmida, who was a student of class-I, the day before for doing bad in her exams and told him that she would commit suicide.
From his office he phoned her several times yesterday but did not get any response. Faridul then rushed to the house only to find the bodies submerged under water in a tub in a bathroom. He rushed the two to Mohammad Ali hospital where doctors declared them dead. Salma was a mental patient and was undergoing treatment for the last two months, Faridul said.
Doctors at the hospital also said Salma had psychological disorders.
The SI quoted her as saying that she did not want to live and could not rely on her husband to look after the children in her absence. So she had killed them and tried to commit suicide.
