Mob beats three 'robbers' to death in Noakhali

Three alleged robbers were beaten to death by a mob in Dakkhin Majlishpur area Chanmondi union in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali yesterday.
The deceased were Faruk Commander, 25, the ring leader, and his two associates Kalu and Nuruddin.
The three hailed from Nalesshor village under the upazila.
Quoting locals, Fazleh Rabbi, officer-in-charge of Hatiya Police Station, said Faruk and his associates came to the area for electioneering on behalf of Amirul Islam Amir, an independent candidate.
However, locals identified Faruk as the leader of a gang accused of robberies in the area and beat him and his two associates, added the OC.
Faruk died on the spot at 3:00pm and his two associates were handed over to army men depoloyed to ensure security in the election to be held tomorrow.
Kalu and Nuruddin later died on the way to Noakhali Medical College Hospital at 8:00pm, OC Fazleh Rabbi said.
Faruk is accused in four cases, including robbery, rape and murder, said the OC.
Faruk was known for committing robberies along the river Mehgna over the last three years, said the police officer.
The bodies were sent for autopsies at Noakhali Medical College Hospital.
