Mob beats 2 robbers to death
Two robbers were beaten to death while two others severely injured by a mob over an attempted robbery at Monohorpur village in Dumuria upazila of Khulna yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Mostakin Gazi, 28, a resident of Baganchra village, and Jony Mallick alias Khaja, 30, son of Abdur Rashid Mallick of Arazi village in the upazila.
The injured -- Ezaz Mallick, 32, son of Abdul Mallick of Sajiara village and Arif Gazi, 25, son of Aziz Gazi of Arazi -- are now undergoing treatment at Dumuria Upazila Health Complex.
M Moshiur Rahman, OC of Dumuria Police Station, said people from neighbouring villages chased down a gang of 10 to 12 robbers after they entered Monohorpur around 2:30 am to commit a robbery.
At one stage of the chase, locals caught four members of the gang red handed at Sajiara village while their other associates managed to flee.
The villagers later took them to Monohorpur and beat them up.
In the morning, police from Madartola outpost took the four injured robbers to the health complex where Mostakin and Jony succumb to their injuries.
Sukumar Sana, a villager, said the robbers in black masks entered his house around 2:30 am and looted valuables at gun point.
Dr Younus Ali said police brought four severely injured people to the health complex in the morning.
Abdul Kader Beg, assistant police super (B-Circle), said the robbers were wanted in several cases, including extortion and robbery, filed with Dumuria Police Station.
