Minister's remark worries ASK, TIB
Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), a rights organisation, yesterday protested Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan's recent comment on extrajudicial killing.
The remark went against the government's pledge to UN Human Rights Council of showing zero tolerance to the extrajudicial killing, says a press release.
On Saturday, Shajahan at BBC Bangla Sanglap at the capital's Biam auditorium said such incidents also occurred in the US to curb terrorism adding that Bangladesh's people welcomed it, the release added.
ASK said it had sufficient grounds to believe from the explanation of law enforcement agencies that extrajudicial killing was taking place in the country.
In another press release, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) expressed its concerns over the remark and urged the minister to withdraw it.
