Participation of BNP uncertain
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad yesterday said the participation of BNP in the upcoming national election is uncertain.
“Since Khaleda Zia is behind the bar, BNP is facing a leadership crisis…. There is doubt whether the party will be able to join the election,” he said while talking to journalists at a motel in Rangpur.
Ershad said JP will field candidates in all 300 seats, but he expressed his fears over the possibility of free and fair polls.
The former military ruler also said he opposes the use of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during the election fearing vote rigging. “I'm not supporting the EVM,” he said.
About his party's upcoming dialogue with the prime minister on November 5, Ershad said he would urge her not to nominate Awami League candidates where JP will be contesting.
Asked about Oikyafront's dialogue with the PM, he said he is sceptical about the success of the talk.
Fakhar Uz Zaman, general secretary of Rangpur district JP, and Mostafizar Rahman, Rangpur mayor, were present among others.
